Mantis is part of the 2009 - 2010 City of Jackson's public art exhibition sponsored by the City of Jackson, Arts and Cultural Alliance of Jackson County and the Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History.
John’s sculptures have evolved from his life long interest in nature. This interest spans the field of study of insects, a fascination of dinosaurs to exotic flowers. He has combined nature with steel, in giving heavy industrial materials a living, animated presence.
