Art News 5/14/09
I have to be honest I have typed, deleted, typed and deleted about seven different messages into this space - none of which seem to capture the essence of the constant dialogue that is running through my brain.
I am sure all of you have read the articles or have seen the public art that has sprung up around town - like spring flowers bursting through the soil so has art!
The Alliance has been the face behind making this happen but it truly was a group effort, one of which I am very proud of. The Alliance in partnership with the City of Jackson's Park and Recreation Department, Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History and Midwest Sculpture Initiative have successfully placed 13 pieces of public art within the city limits during the last two weeks.
Now we can have a conversation till the cows come home on what is art or what is not art - the fact remains we have art!
Art is at the very core of our existence. Art is creative expression - the public art you see around town is just a reminder that art feeds our souls and a part of our daily lives. For me it also reminds me of how a community can work together and make a difference.
