Thriving in Interesting Times

October 16, 2009

Jackson District Library - Carnegie Branch Auditorium

There’s an old curse that says, “May you live in interesting times.”   We certainly do live in interesting times…and that has created some challenges for arts organizations.  The bad news is, we can’t count on the same techniques we’ve used to market and raise funds, because audiences and funders are changing.  The good news is, support has been coming to arts organizations in creative and exciting ways, and organizations who understand this are poised to survive and thrive in the 21st century.

This hands-on, fast paced workshop will include work with audience development, contributed support, and raising the visibility of the arts and your organization.  We’ll talk about which audiences and funders are coming to the arts, and how to attract them; shaping your institutional identity; and marketing techniques that take advantage of the ways today’s audiences are seeking information.

The presenter, Ellen Rosewall, teaches and coordinates the Arts Management Program at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.  She is the President of the Wisconsin Public Radio Association and a member of the board of the Cannery Arts Center for Creativity in Green Bay.   Ellen has spoken to many arts groups around the country, including Americans for the Arts, the Association of Arts Administration Educators, and the National Arts Marketing Conference.  She specializes in working with organizations in small to mid-sized communities.
